Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic

Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic
by: Peter H.r. Green, Rory Jones

Editorial Review:

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that affects nearly one in every hundred people. Unfortunately, 97 percent remain undiagnosed and untreated. They continue to suffer from gastrointestinal complaints, fatigue, headaches, joint pain, anemia, and itchy skin conditions -- to name just a few of the symptoms. These people consult numerous doctors, who prescribe drugs and diets that may alleviate some symptoms, but rarely work for long.

If you are one of these people, the real answer to your medical problems may lie in this book.

Celiac disease is a hereditary condition that damages the lining of the small intestine so that it cannot properly absorb the food that you eat. Without essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrition, the entire body begins to suffer. Because of its autoimmune nature it also sets off reactions that reverberate throughout all the organs of the body. This is a disease that you do not outgrow -- it often returns years later with more significant symptoms.

The true medical impact of celiac disease is just beginning to emerge. This is the first authoritative guide on how the condition is properly diagnosed, treated, and managed. It examines the latest research into its many manifestations, with chapters devoted to each complication and to related diseases. These include infertility, other autoimmune conditions (for example, type 1 diabetes and thyroid disease), peripheral neuropathy, liver disease, and even cancer. It also devotes an entire section to coping with the psychological aspects of a chronic illness and the gluten-free diet.

This "inside-out" examination and explanation of the disease is a must-read for both patients and the medical community.

What an eye opener !:

This is one of the best, most comprehensive books ever on celiac disease. It is helpful to know that even though some tests come back negative that having "hidden" celiac is very real. It can manifest is no very many ways and most doctors are not aware that this can be a problem!
Thanks to Dr Green, the answers are there in easily readable language. I would recommend this book to anyone that has digestive, skin or any other vague symptoms that no one seems to be able to treat( other than with... more info

Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic:

An excellent explanation of the disease and how to follow a gluten free diet. Helpful as a reference when friends/family don't fully comprehend the need to be strictly gluten free. I highlighted certain passages and gave the book to nonbelievers to read.

Excellent book!!:

This book should be titled the "Celiac Bible." Very well written and organized. This is the best book on the subject I've come across so far. Covers a wide range of Celiac related topics even down to the level of toothpaste. Months ago I would have thought that a joke, but after diet alone not bringing recovery for me, even toothpaste is now suspect. I highly recommend this book, its full of good detailed information.

This is the book to get:

An outstanding book. It goes over the disease in detail, in language that a layperson can understand. It covers other related conditions and autoimmune diseases, explains thoroughly the pathology of the disease, plus nearly half the book devoted to expert advice on the gluten-free diet. It is a must-have book if you or someone in your family has celiac disease. Get this book first. Get it now if you have celiac disease.
