My gift of a healthier life.:
My cousin gave me this book. I thought it was a weight loss book, so I read it, loved it and put it away. Three months later I was feeling ill and desperate and I remembered Nan Lu's words. I pulled out the book and followed the suggestions. I really isn't a weight loss book...it is a heal yourself book and the weightloss is a side bonus. I use it like my health bible now. I bought this book a couple years ago because I had seen the benefits of TCM in my life - Losing weight the TCM way intrigued me - I began following the program exactly - and the journey I have been on has truly changed my life. The vegetarian diet was very curious to me - as I had been on an Atkins type diet for years - and to be able to eat such large amounts of fruit and vegetables was joyous to me. Strict Vegetarian Diet!:
1. If I had known this was promoting a strict vegetarian diet, I would never have bought the book, and am surprised none of the other reviewers specified this. The author recommends eliminating from the outset meat, fish, dairy, grains -- what's left -- vegetables. This falls into the category of a crash diet. It is unsuitable for individuals with blood sugar difficulties or pronounced insulin resistance, which many overweight people do have. It is also not a sensible diet for long term use. acupuncture student trying this:
I bought this book a few years ago. I am currently in acupuncture school, and despite doing regular qi gong (which is what the exercises are) and adopting the diet, I did not lose any weight. I also didn't notice any differences in that qi gong over various other styles of qi gong. I was really, really hoping this book was the answer I had been looking for, but it has turned out to be like every other diet book--something else to sit on my shelf.
